Range Rules
1.. The CTSA Range is private, for the exclusive use of CTSA members and their guests. Guests must be accompanied by an active CTSA member. Wear your membership ID badge whenever you are at the range.
2. CTSA members are responsible for the behavior of the guests they bring to the range.
3. Only approved metallic silhouettes or paper targets may be shot at the CTSA range.
Full sized silhouettes may be shot at the following minimum ranges with big bore hand guns: chickens--50 meters; pigs--100 meters; turkeys--150 meters; rams--200 meters.
Full sized silhouettes may be shot at the following minimum distances with center fire rifles: chickens--200 meters; pigs--300 meters; turkeys--375 meters; rams--500 meters.
Half size and rimfire targets may be shot only with appropriate guns and distances as outlined in the IHMSA and NRA rules.
Shooters will clean up and dispose of paper targets before leaving the range.
NO SILHOUETTE MAY EVER BE SHOT WITH A BELTED MAGNUM OR WITH HIGH VELOCITY ROUNDS THAT PENETRATE THE TARGET.
4. Military rounds such as .50 BMG, armor piercing, tracers and other similar rounds may not be fired at the range.
5. Full metal jacket (FMJ) military surplus ball type ammunition is not allowed for practice at the range. This does not include the standard hunting and target bullets, but only military rounds with a heavy jacket that are prone to ricochet and skipping while remaining largely intact. An exception is made for supervised service rifle matches such as those run by SARPC.
6. All shooters and spectators on the firing line must wear eye and ear protection.
7. All firearms will be handled in a safe and responsible manner and all guns will be unloaded and untouched with the actions open when anyone is down range.
8. No alcoholic beverages may be consumed before or during shooting sessions.
9. Members will monitor non-members and will record license numbers and descriptions of individuals seen doing deliberate damage to club property, including targets. This information will be forwarded to local authorities for prosecution. If possible, go to Dietz’s Gun Shop and call the Comal County Sheriff at 620-3408 to report the trespass and vandalism. We have to file complaints and follow through to solve this problem.
10. Loads that do target damage at standard match distances are not allowed for competition or practice.
11. All shooters and visitors will properly dispose of any litter, including spent shell casings and cleaning patches, after their range session. Barrels and a dumpster are provided
12. No targets can be attached to the tree. Do not shoot the tree.
13. Do not shoot high power rifles into the berms on the left of the range. They are designed for .22 and will not contain a high power round.
14. Be sure that all targets are completely backed up by a berm. Don’t place targets on the open ground between berms; they can skip out of the range. When shooting a lot of paper, try to move your targets to the left or right occasionally. This will help keep the gravel covering on the berms intact for matches.
It’s your range. Help keep it in good repair and shoot safely!
